Step 1-Understanding of Client. The first step that will lead a web designer to create the perfect website design is understanding their clients brand. Every company has its own business category and sense personality. A great web designer must consult with their client to get a feel of what their business is about and what differentiates that from others in their business category. Every company has own ‘taste’ with the way they do things and expectations where they would like to go in the future. Web designers must grasp this important information. This is the first step to grasping what the design is about.
Step 2-Pre Designing. Pre-designing is a phase of ideas that goes through a web designers mind. Inspiration to create a web design may come from walking out side and having a long thought about it or it may come from looking at different websites on the web. When pre designing a website, a web designer must always use a drawing board to sketch out the web design. Some developers may be comfortable with creating a sketch through photoshop and others may be comfortable drawing their ideas down by hand.
Quick Note: If you are browsing a website and really like a specific color shade, you can always right click, inspect element, and use your mouse to select a certain element from the page to see what is has been created with and in this case you will get the full number shade of the color you like.
Step 3-Recent Web Trends. A web designer must stay up to date with the latest web trends. Web design trends are out there for a reason and that reason primarily is for improvement on the web. So if the web designs have a new standard in 2016 and the years to come for mobile friendly web designs, it’s important for a developer to be aware and implement whatever is needed to make a website mobile friendly.
Step 4-Gray Spaces. Gray spaces provide a slot for empty elements to be placed. When designing, a developer can leave certain elements with gray and white spaces to get a general outlook of the design before actually imputing in the material.
Step 5-CSS Code. Web designers must always practice clean coding. Clean coding has 2 benefits. The first benefit will help the developer. Let’s say a web developer wants to make a change on a CSS line, but if he has jumbled everything up and named some Div elements random names, then he has a problem on his hands. To save time, a developer must practice clean coding.
Example of Clean Coding ( Multiple Class Sectors):
font: 18px arial, sans-serif;
The above shows that we declared multiple h tags to have the same font size on one line and we have prevented writing that code 3 times. This is an example of a clean coding method.
Quick Note: Compressing your CSS File automatically clean your website code as done above. However, we recommend that every developer should practice clean coding so they can automatically code well for every website.
Step 6-Great Photography. High-resolution photography really does make a site look even more profession. Invest in some great photography. Images can be found free on the web,by attribution, or available for a small fee. Great studio quality images will put on an impressive visual for a website visitor.
Step 7-Web Content. Website content must be accurate to the brand. This means if a website is dedicated to a construction service. The entire website content should be about that construction company. Even if the website has a blog section, the blog content should be related to the category of the business.
Step 8-SEO in Place. A great design doesn’t go anywhere without proper SEO. All web developers must add correct meta tags, robot tags, RSS/SITEMAP XML files, to a website. A run through should be done just to see there aren’t any broken files on the website.
Step 9-Testing on Different ScreenSizes. Responsive website design is a must this year. Being that there are so many different screen sizes, a website must learn how to adapt to all of them. A developer should always test his website design on different screen sizes before the final launch.
Step 10-Final Overview. Once running through this above checklist, a web designer is ready for the big launch. A quick overview with the client can be done prior and the site can be launched live on the web!
